Kyra Shea Queen: Jerlene

There’s the age-old adage that says you get what you ask for. This is true in relationships, in career, and even in your hair and skincare journeys. This week’s Kyra Shea Queen, Jerlene, had a simple request. She wanted quality, all-natural beauty products free of toxins and to take a stand for her health. However, she found herself in a beauty dilemma when she realized that many of the top beauty brands’ products contain toxic chemicals.

In 2015, Jerlene set out on a journey to find a black-owned hair and skincare line that used natural ingredients. Kyra Shea Medleys was the answer to Jerlene’s search. She has been using KSM products not only on her skin and hair but also on her son’s ever since!

How did you find Kyra's Shea Medleys?

Back in 2015, I decided to transition my hair back to natural. When I started my journey, I started looking for black-owned hair and skin care products. I wanted to ensure throughout my back-to-natural journey, the products I was using were also natural. During my search on IG, I came across Kyra Shea Medleys and have been a customer since.

What are your FAVORITE KSM products?

My absolute favorite is the Strength + Emollient Butter Cream. It is my go-to butter cream every day. I also use the Nutrition and Conditioner Butter Cream for my son’s eczema. The Baby Powder Baby Butter is also another one I use in rotation. In addition to the butter creams, I use the Mango, Carrot & Almond and Avocado & Vanilla 3-N-1 Scrubs. I love the Avocado & Vanilla Oil Medley for my scalp.

How do you use your Medleys?

Both my hair and skin!

How would you describe your hair and/or skin after using KSM products in three words?

My skin is moisturized all day! I get tons of compliments on my skin because of the natural glow the butter creams give me. I also use the butter creams for braid-outs that produce high definition and long-lasting moisture.

What is your favorite hairstyle?

Pineapple

What would you say to a friend to encourage them to try natural beauty care products?

I did not know about the toxic chemicals that are in many top beauty brands’ lotions, soaps and deodorants. If you are looking to “change your life around” and want to take a stand in your health, then I suggest you try KSM. I feel great knowing I made a change for myself and my son, one where we can apply cruelty-free products to our skin. I never have to worry about running out because a little goes a long way! I have been using KSM for three years, and the only thing that my 5-year-old knows to put on his skin is “cream” or “Shea butter.” It didn’t take much for me to become a customer. I read into KSM’s mission and their purpose. Their mission and purpose became my own, and now, I’m able to enlighten others around me to do the same!

Has KSM positively affected your perception of yourself? If so, how?

KSM has changed my life completely. I have grown a tremendous amount of confidence in myself knowing that I do not have to conform to America’s beauty standards. KSM’s hair/skin care has made a big difference in my life. Transitioning was not easy, but with the use of KSM every day, I have a newfound love for myself that grows bigger daily!
